GS1-128 (formerly UCC/EAN-128) is a constrained use of Code 128 that carries structured data through GS1 Application Identifiers (AIs).

How it works

A special FNC1 character flags it as GS1 data, and AIs prefix each field — batch/lot, production and expiry dates, quantities or an SSCC — inside one symbol.

Where it's used

Supply-chain and shipping-unit labels that must convey far more than a product number.
