EAN-13

EAN-13 is the 13-digit global retail product barcode (a GTIN-13) scanned at checkouts around the world outside North America.

How it works

The digits combine a GS1 company prefix, a product number and a calculated check digit, and the left and right halves use different encodings so scanners detect orientation.

Where it's used

The default point-of-sale barcode on virtually all consumer retail products internationally.
